Confusion continues even after FISA is passed
The House of Representatives voted in favor of updating the controversial surveillance tool without proposing conservative changes to the warrant process, despite opposition from former President Trump.
The FISA reauthorization vote came after a bill that would have added warrant requirements for U.S. data failed by a tie vote.
But conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus and their allies are blocking the bill from being immediately introduced to the Senate. In the dramatic moments after passage, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) brought up a procedural measure to object to the final vote count. However, a second vote could not be held because several House members had already left the chamber, possibly heading to the airport.
The House will then have to vote on Monday whether to reconsider passage of Section 702, shortening the Senate’s timeline for considering the bill before April 19, when oversight powers expire.
