Tiger Woods said Friday he has a “good chance” of playing in the Masters after qualifying for a record 24th consecutive Masters.
But his chances were ruined early in the third round at Augusta National.
The five-time Green Jacket winner entered the day with a seven-shot lead over the lead, but then something strange happened.

But on Saturday at Augusta National, he scored 82 points, his lowest ever. His previous worst score was 78.
Woods bogeyed the fourth hole and then made five birdies, showing positive signs. But that didn’t last long, as a grueling four-hole stretch ensued.
After a bogey on the par-3 sixth hole, double bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes and a bogey on the ninth. During that time, six drop shots occurred.
Woods briefly calmed down, but then made four straight bogeys and finished with par on 18.
The round got so bad that Woods wasn’t shown on the broadcast until he walked up the 18th green to a standing ovation.
His 42 on the front nine was his lowest score on the Masters nine, and he finished the round 17 strokes behind the leader.

Considering what his body was going through, Woods looked uncomfortable throughout the round. Social media I wondered if he would withdraw in the middle of the third round for the second year in a row.
Last year, heavy rain and wind put Woods through the wringer, and he played just a few holes in the third round before calling it a tournament.
Woods said after Friday’s second round that it was a “long day.” His first round was interrupted due to darkness following an early morning delay, and he was forced to play 23 holes in strong wind gusts on Friday.
Woods shot a 78 in the third and fourth rounds of 2022, playing in his first tournament since a car accident that seriously injured his right leg.
