Tiger Woods has historically bad day at Masters with third-round 82

AUGUSTA, Ga. — After the second round of the Masters concluded on Friday, Tiger Woods boasted that he was “right there” going into the weekend trying to win his sixth green jacket.

Woods, 48, a five-time Masters champion, entered the weekend at 1 over par, seven shots off the lead.

And on Saturday, he shot an astonishing and uncharacteristic 10-over-par 82, the highest score he’s posted in 26 Masters appearances and 99 career rounds, and a long way from being “right around the corner.” Became.

The result was a massive deflation, as Woods had just set a tournament record with 24 consecutive cuts on Friday.

His day started off well on Saturday with pars on the first three holes, bogey on the fourth and a comeback birdie on the fifth.

At that point he was even par for the day.

His rounds and tournaments were then revealed.

Woods had a double bogey on the 7th and 8th, and a bogey on the 9th, finishing with a score of 42.

He made another bogey on the 12th, birdied the 13th, and had back-to-back bogeys on the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th.

Still, when Woods shot 18 for par, he took off his hat, looking exhausted but grateful, and was met with enthusiastic applause.

Woods’ previous worst Masters score was a 78 in both the third and fourth rounds of the 2022 tournament.

His worst score before that was a 77 in the third round of a 1995 tournament when he was still an amateur.

His 26th Masters failed in the stretch from holes 6 to 9.

On the par-3 sixth hole, Woods did something he couldn’t do on this hole: hit his tee shot onto the green.

He tried to putt over the fringe, but the ball fell five feet short.

Then he missed the par putt.

On the 7th, he hit his drive into the pine straw on the right side, but the situation worsened as the pine tree blocked him from the green.

He tried to take a punch shot from the straw, but pulled the ball in a bad spot on the left side, about 44 yards to the pin.

He then sent a pitch shot into the bunker on the left side of the green.

After chipping out again, he left behind an 18-foot bogey putt for his first double bogey of the tournament.

Woods hit his No. 8 tee shot into the trees on the left.

After punching out, his approach to the green was poor, leaving him with a 25-foot putt.

From there, he made a three-putt and achieved his second consecutive double.

It was the first time Woods had double bogey on the 8th, a par-5 that traditionally yields many birdies.

After that, he made a three-putt bogey on the 9th hole, and turned at 6 over that day and 7 over in the tournament, but he couldn’t recover from that.
