Several sanctuary cities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are expected to set aside $300 million in American tax dollars to resettle immigrants across the country on behalf of President Joe Biden’s administration.
On Friday, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that some cities and NGOs will soon receive $300 million worth of federal grants through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Shelter and Services Program (SSP). announced that it would receive.
The Biden administration created the SSP with funding from Congress to distribute taxpayer funds to cities and NGOs that help resettle migrants released inland from the southern border.
Mayorkas said in the announcement that approximately $275 million will soon be distributed to cities and NGOs, with the remaining $25 million to be distributed toward the end of the year. In addition, nearly $341 million will be awarded through his SSP competitive grants.
The taxpayer funds are just the latest allocation for the Biden administration to cities and NGOs resettling immigrants.
Last year alone, DHS provided more than $780 million to these cities and NGOs through SSP and the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), which was launched in the late 1980s to help America’s homeless.
The Biden administration has released 6.2 million migrants into the interior of the United States since the beginning of 2021, according to the latest estimates from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released in January.
