Anti-Israel protesters have blocked the access road to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, forcing some travelers to get out of their cars and walk to the terminal.
Cellphone video circulating on Instagram shows activists linking arms and using long tubes to block cars from accessing the Windy City’s main airport on Interstate 190 on Monday morning. It showed him sitting in the middle.
Many of the protesters were seen wearing keffiyeh scarves and brandishing placards reading “Liberate Palestine” and “Stop the Genocide”.
Organizers of the protest said their goal was to send a message to Boeing because the company sells weapons to Israel for use in the war against Hamas.
“Protesters are planning to take dramatic action this Tax Day, when millions pay taxes that help fund the ongoing bombing of Gaza by the United States and Israel,” the group said. Chicago Decenters wrote in an Instagram post. “O’Hare International Airport is one of the nation’s largest airports, and it will not be business as usual while Palestinians suffer from American-funded Israeli bombing.”
Passengers departing from O’Hare on Monday were urged to consider alternative transportation options to the airport, including the CTA Blue Line, the airport wrote to X.
