Shooter ID’d in killing of Syracuse police officer and Onondaga County deputy: officials

The man who fatally shot a Syracuse police officer and sheriff’s deputy over the weekend before dying from wounds sustained in the gunfight has been identified as Christopher R. Murphy, authorities said.

The Onondaga County District Attorney on Sunday identified Murphy, 33, of Salina, as the suspect in the deadly incident. syracuse.com report.

Murphy exchanged gunfire with a Syracuse Police Department officer and an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputy in front of a home in the Syracuse suburb of Salina just before 9 p.m.

Officers followed a man to a residence after he refused to pull over during a traffic stop in the city’s Tip Hill neighborhood around 7 p.m.

Both the officer and Murphy were all struck during the interaction. Mr Murphy later died from his injuries at hospital.
