Representative Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) challenges House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in front of his House Republican colleagues. to his face that he intended to co-sponsor a motion to vacate the chairman’s seat.
Greene filed a motion to resign on March 22 after Johnson forced a vote on a $1.2 trillion spending bill over the objections of most House Republicans, which would be effective in October 2023. It was the same procedural tool used in October 2023 to terminate former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) as speaker. .
The motion is not privileged, meaning the House does not have to consider it. However, Green or other members may initiate a vote on the motion at any time.
I just told Mike Johnson at the meeting that I support his motion to resign. @RepMTG.
He should announce his resignation in advance (as Mr. Boehner did) so that a new chair can be elected without losing the Republican chair.

“I just told Mike Johnson at the press conference that I support the motion to vacate Mr. Greene,” Massey wrote on X, confirming reports from inside the room. “He should announce his resignation in advance (like Mr. Boehner did) so that a new chair can be elected without losing the Republican chair. ”
Greene and others have accused Johnson of promoting President Biden’s policies and insisting on the Ukrainian border rather than the U.S. border.
Prime Minister Johnson publicly dismissed the threat to the gavel, saying he wasn’t worried about things he couldn’t control.
He said he would not resign. I told him that he is the only one who can stop us from going through what happened last fall.

But it seems he has a simple choice. He must withdraw his plan to provide funding to Ukraine or be ousted as chairman.
