Trump Backs Off Support for Mike Johnson as Conservatives Move to Oust Him

Former President Donald Trump appeared to weaken his support for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) on Tuesday as conservatives moved to remove him from office.

During his visit to Harlem, President Trump was asked about efforts by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Rep. Thomas Massey (R-Ky.) to remove Mr. Johnson from office.

He simply replied, “Let’s see what happens.”

This is a different tone from when Trump praised the chairman at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago last week.

“We get on very well with the chair, and I get on very well with Marjorie. We have a chair and he was elected by vote, but it was a complicated process.” Mr. Trump said.

“I think he’s doing a very good job.” “He’s doing as good a job as you’re going to do.” She is a friend and I know she has great respect for the Speaker,” Trump continued.

Trump’s comments come after Greene spoke with Breitbart News Washington bureau chief Matthew Boyle and said she was prepared to unseat Johnson as House majority leader. .

Georgia conservatives cited Johnson’s support for continued aid to Ukraine, his spending plans, and the reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) as some of the many reasons for firing him.

Mr Johnson on Tuesday criticized Mr Massey’s recommendation to resign as “ridiculous”.

After a Heritage Foundation poll found that voters in battleground states were increasingly fed up with America’s endless funding for Ukraine, Mr. I continue to ask for support.

Resentment is only growing in the House Republican conference.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pennsylvania), former Freedom Caucus chairman, and Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), former chairman of the Republican Research Committee (RSC), have endorsed Prime Minister Johnson’s foreign aid framework. I scoffed. He has focused on aid to Ukraine and ignored the migrant crisis on the southern border.
