Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) said in an interview that America needs a House and Senate filled with members who are aligned with “Donald Trump’s America First policies.” Breitbart News Saturday In it, he said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) essentially “ceded the gavel of the House to the Democrats.”
Banks discussed Mr Johnson’s reversal on aid to Ukraine and also discussed one of the most shocking developments of the past week.
“Mike Johnson handed the speaker’s gavel to the Democrats and said you guys are in control here. I mean, there’s no other explanation. When we implemented the rule, it was a different matter, but there were more Democrats on the floor of the House voting for this rule than Republicans, because I think 55 of us were on the Republican side. Roughly 25 percent of House Republicans voted against this rule because they know it betrays the voters who gave us the majority in the first place.” He explained what conservative politicians have been arguing for many years. Before giving more aid to Ukraine, we need to secure America’s borders.
“And our Republican chairman does the exact opposite of that. I mean, I’m beside myself. I can’t believe he did that. Why would he do that? But the fact is, he’s ceding the majority to the Democrats, and at this point you can’t tell the difference between Nancy Pelosi and Speaker Mike Johnson. There’s nothing better than what Nancy Pelosi did. So it’s very unfortunate,” he said, adding that the Republican majority of just one seat makes the ouster attempt very tough. He pointed out possible dangers that could occur in the future.
listen:
“I don’t know the difference between Democratic Chairman and Republican Chairman Mike Johnson at this point. I mean, he’s done everything the Democrats wanted him to do, so I don’t know if things could get any worse. I don’t know, but if you oust him, will the Democrats, who have a one-seat majority, take over the speaker’s chair? Will that lead to anything more… Is it worse than Johnson’s result?” he asked, noting that the current Republican leadership in the House “has to go” in November.
Banks said he believes there is a good chance of success with former President Donald Trump leading the charge, but reiterated that the current leadership needs to be “replaced before the Republican convention.”
“I think that’s the prevailing sentiment in the House. You know, I’m running for the Senate to move into that chamber. And the Senate will have new leadership. Donald. There has to be Republican leadership in the House and Senate that is aligned with Trump’s America First policies. And right now, with the current House of Representatives, the current group of House leadership, that’s not what we’re getting. ” he added.
