Former Attorney General Bill Barr said the real threat in the United States comes not from former President Trump but from the “far left.”
Barr discussed the potential difficulties a second Trump administration could face in getting people to serve, saying the former president’s priority was to get “people who are perceived to be more amenable to him.” The former attorney general said it was “an important area”. concern. ”
“But at the end of the day, let’s not forget that I served in his administration,” Barr told Fox News anchor Neil Kabuto during an appearance on Saturday’s “Kabuto Live.” told. “I was happy with his policies. I think his policies were good policies. My problem was with his actions, and I found that very problematic after the election.”
Barr then said that the “idea” of Trump seizing “power” like a “right-wing dictator” was not a threat the United States faced, but rather that the real threat to democracy came from the “far left.” He claimed to be coming.
“The threat our country faces is from the far left and the trend toward a true socialist system,” Barr said.
He added: “In my opinion, this is a group of hardened thugs, and that’s where the threat lies.”
His comments came despite the Republican presidential nominee’s previous criticism of his former boss. Barr has previously said Biden’s reelection would be the worst outcome for the country.
“And…Trump may be playing Russian roulette, but in my opinion, a continuation of the Biden administration is national suicide,” Barr said Wednesday.
Asked on Saturday whether President Trump’s surrounding himself with “sycophants” was enough to “check” him, Barr said some of those people will end up there. He said some people would fall into the trap, but that would be an “important sign.” Who will Trump choose as vice president?
“I think the selection of the vice president and the type of person they choose will be an important indicator,” Barr said. “I hope he chooses someone who is a strong conservative Republican and can serve as president of the United States if necessary.”
