Steals will come for lackluster speedsters

The first month of the Fantasy Baseball season can be one of the most important months to begin your quest for a championship.

It’s less about where you are in the standings today and more about how you position yourself and build your roster over the coming months.

You must study the statistical trends that are happening and find ways to take advantage of what is happening before your opponent realizes your intentions.

Stealing bases seems like the perfect area for you to take action.

Last season, the number of stolen bases reached a record high.

The number of stolen bases by the end of April 2023 is 566.

There were 402 total stolen bases entering Friday, which means the league is surprisingly on pace to surpass last year’s total through the first month. But the funny thing is, people still believe stolen bases are on the decline.

There are no players with double-digit career steals, and there are no top burners we expected to see at the top of the leaderboard.

You can take action here.

Bryce Turan and Lane Thomas entered Friday leading the league in stolen bases, while Nico Hoerner and Estury Ruiz had just two stolen bases between them.

Both players were overdrafted this season because the team, which acquired power and pitching power early in the draft, wanted to make sure it covered stolen bases after last year’s blowout.

Horner was a fifth-round pick, but Lewis, a Category 1 contributor, was pushed to the sixth round.

Neither is running, and fantasy owners are getting more and more frustrated by the day.

However, their complaints are about the players as a whole, not their ranking in the stolen base department. Because they found contributions from unexpected sources.

Players like Turan, Thomas, Will Benson and Jose Caballero continue to trail them in the category, giving Steele a false sense of security that he’ll be fine.

But eventually the water will come into its own and these players won’t be enough on their own, so now is the time to make a low offer.

Horner may not have stolen bases yet, but his .380 on-base percentage tells us his chance is on the horizon.

Lewis, who was demoted for reasons unrelated to his on-field performance, may not be a full-time player right now, but given his level of play, the team has no choice but to bring him back and will also start flying around the basepaths. These players combined for 110 stolen bases last season.

Don’t miss your chance to trade now and conquer your category before the first half ends.
