Officials Warn of Ground Beef Contaminated by E.coli

Food safety authorities have issued a national public health warning about ground meat that may be contaminated with E. coli.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announcement On Saturday, it warned consumers not to eat certain raw ground meat produced on March 28, 2024.

The “use/freeze date” of the contaminated food is April 22, 2024, and the packaging date is “032824.”

FSIS said products that are subject to public health warnings have the establishment number “EST.” It has “960A” inside the USDA inspection mark and has been “shipped to food service organizations and retail stores nationwide.”

“This issue was discovered by the facility while conducting an inventory of product that was on hold due to a positive E. coli O157:H7 test,” officials said. “The company notified FSIS that it inadvertently used some of the contaminated beef to manufacture ground meat products that were then shipped to commerce.”

Although there have been no confirmed reports of illness related to contaminated beef, consumers are still encouraged to throw away all foods on the list.

No recall was issued because these products are no longer available for purchase.

E. coli is a “potentially lethal” bacteria that can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal pain after exposure, according to FSIS.
