Rory McIlroy left the PGA Tour policy committee last year, but the Northern Irishman could now return to the leadership role.
Officials confirmed that the four-time major champion I was able to see the role of a director. According to the Guardian, both the PGA Tour Policy Board and PGA Tour Enterprises will vote on Wednesday.
Current player director Webb Simpson tendered his resignation on Monday and asked for McIlroy to replace him.
McIlroy resigned from his coaching position last November in a shocking move. Upon his departure, McIlroy said he wanted to focus more on his game.
It is unclear whether he will accept the role.

Professional golf is still confusing. There has been no update on negotiations between the Saudi PIF and the PGA Tour since the June 6 framework agreement.
The 24-time PGA Tour winner expressed his belief that golf’s reputation has been tarnished through this process.
The news comes a week after McIlroy shot down rumors about his LIV golf and told the world he intended to play on the PGA Tour for the rest of his career.
His pending return to the trenches could boost member morale. DP World Tour and Fenway Sports Group are probably happy with this development as well. The PGA Tour brokered a deal worth up to $3 billion with the sports consortium earlier this year.
McIlroy and Tiger Woods have an existing relationship with FSG through TGL, a simulation golf league that launches in January 2025. However, the world number two also has a pre-existing relationship with Yasir Al Rumayan, the head of the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
Woods, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth are among the fellow board members voting on McIlroy’s possible return. McIlroy is in New Orleans this week with his playing partner Shane Lowry to compete in the Zurich Classic in New Orleans.
