JJ Redick interviewing for vacant Hornets head coaching job

JJ Redick will have the opportunity to interview for the Hornets’ vacant head coaching position. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Monday night.

The former Duke star and NBA veteran hosts the hugely popular basketball podcast “The Old Man and the Three,” and in March he launched his second podcast with LeBron James, “Mind.” The Game” has started.

Redick has reportedly expressed interest in the coaching world, but has never formally held a coaching position at any level.

He retired from the NBA in 2021 after a 15-year career, after which he played seven years in Orlando, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Milwaukee and Dallas.

Redick scored more than 12,000 points during his NBA career and had his number retired by Duke University after his college career.

Redick has been an analyst for ESPN since leaving the game, joining Mike Breen and Doris Burke as the network’s No. 1 analyst this season after Doc Rivers left to take the Bucks’ head coaching job. Promoted to the broadcast team.

This will be Redick’s second attempt at a coaching job in the NBA, after interviewing for a coaching job with the Raptors last year.

Redick’s basketball knowledge is widely respected throughout the league.

The Hornets are in the midst of a coaching search after Steve Clifford resigned at the end of the season to transition into a front office role with the team.

Charlotte is coming off a dismal 21-61 season, giving them the third-worst record in the NBA in 2023-24 and losing for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. .

Several other names have been discussed for the coaching role, including Jerry Stackhouse, Jordan Ott, and Royal Ivey.
