Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005, but the award was rescinded five years later after it was revealed that he received improper benefits from a marketing agency while he was a student. However, with the introduction of the NIL, the Heisman Trust ultimately decided to return the trophy to Bush.
A 2010 investigation during his time as a running back at the University of Southern California revealed that Bush received thousands of dollars in cash and free luxury CA. These gifts were not allowed by the NCAA at the time. But since then, the league has adopted rules governing name, image, and likeness (NIL) compensation for college athletes, allowing these amateur athletes to earn income from their efforts in college sports.
Therefore, the revocation of his award means little today. And it appears the Heisman Trust and NCAA have come to just that. conclusion this week, according to Yahoo Sports.

He also said he plans to sue the NCAA for defamation in order to get his trophy back and his record restored. The case has not yet been resolved, but the trust’s decision to end the stalemate could affect the case.
Still, the Heisman cancellation did not prevent him from being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
The Heisman Trust now says the trophy will be returned to Busch and a copy will be sent to USC for display. He will also be invited to all future Heisman ceremonies starting next year.
After graduating from college, Bush played in Super Bowl XLIV with the New Orleans Saints in 2010, winning a Super Bowl ring and becoming the team’s first Super Bowl champion. He retired from the NFL in 2017 and became a commentator for Fox Sports.
