Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Thursday vowed that if anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas protesters attempted to engage in the same behavior seen at Columbia University and Yale University, they would be expelled from Florida universities.
“Think about what happens when you let Hamas protesters go out. They’re occupying bridges, they’re occupying roads,” he said, adding that these individuals have no right to do that. He pointed out that.
“How do you know if someone might need to go to the hospital? Someone might have to pick up a child somewhere and you just take over the road. ,” he said, highlighting a viral example in Miami, Florida, where protesters attempted the same stunt. Within minutes, police officers responded and pulled the protesters from the road.

“We’re not going to tolerate that. Look at these universities. When you have students who are doing this kind of thing, I mean, some of the things about Hamas, it’s like somebody’s going to come out and demonstrate. I think that’s ridiculous,” DeSantis said, adding: When you’re chasing Jewish students around, when you’re not letting Jewish professors into your building, when you’re targeting people like that, that’s not free speech. ”
DeSantis said the conduct clearly constitutes harassment in violation of proper conduct. But the students who do this at places like Columbia and Yale “rule the roost” and “do whatever they want.”
“And the administrators and presidents of these universities are weak. They’re scared and won’t do anything,” he said, making it clear that such behavior has no place in the Sunshine State.
“You can do that at our university in Florida. We’re showing you the door. You’re going to get expelled for doing that, and the minute people start facing the consequences, You will never see this nonsense happening,” the governor added.
