On Thursday, the Los Angeles-based university announced the cancellation of its May 10 entrance exam.th Main stage ceremony. In a typical year, the celebration typically attracts approximately 65,000 participants.

Film director Jon M. Chu was scheduled to give a keynote speech this year, but this has now been cancelled.

The main commencement ceremony was reportedly canceled due to safety concerns stemming from pro-Hamas demonstrations in which 93 people were arrested on campus on Wednesday. Since the protests, the University of Southern California has also closed its campus “until further notice.”

Although the university will no longer hold its typical large graduation ceremonies, dozens of smaller graduation ceremonies will continue to be held for each of the university’s schools.

“We understand that this is disappointing. However, we are adding many new activities and celebrations to make this graduation ceremony academically meaningful, memorable, and unique to USC. ” the university said in an update.

This is a huge blow to the Class of 2024, as the 2020 graduation took place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the majority of graduates did not even have a proper high school diploma.
