Adam Schiff’s luggage stolen during car theft in San Francisco

California Rep. Adam Schiff learned of San Francisco crime firsthand on Thursday when he had his luggage stolen from his car in a parking lot and was forced to attend a fancy dinner in casual clothes, according to reports.

The Democrat running for the Senate to replace the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was also in the city for several days, parking her car in a downtown garage before rallying with supporters. Ta. san francisco chronicle report.

But before dinner at Ristorante Rocca near Burlingame, he was robbed and lost his bag, leaving him unable to put on a suit on the spot.

“Yes, they took my stuff,” Schiff admitted to the Chronicle. “But I’m here to thank Joe,” he added, referring to prominent attorney Joe Cotchett, who is supporting his bid for the Senate.

“I think it’s ‘Welcome to San Francisco,'” Lee Housekeeper, a spokeswoman for Mr. Cotchett, told the paper candidly.

Photos of the restaurant obtained by the magazine show that Schiff was the best-dressed diner ever seated at the table.

The lawmaker was seen standing up and speaking while wearing a long-sleeved shirt under a mountaineering vest.

But despite the car robbery and subsequent wardrobe emergency, Cotchett said Schiff didn’t seem to mind.
