Are ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ the heroes Marvel needs?

Marvel has been in a lot of trouble lately.

By MCU standards, last year’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumia was a huge flop. The sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, was a moderate hit despite complaints about the drop in quality, and Marvel is finally living up to the admonition of “wake up, go bankrupt” instead of following the adage. Expectations were high.

Those hopes were dashed by the release of “The Marvels” in November. The movie was a goofy ode to girl power and all but sealed the victory for DEI over good storytelling. Audiences turned away, resulting in the film becoming the studio’s lowest-grossing film in history. Since then, the average Marvel fan’s mood has turned dark.

And on Monday, the latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer was released.

It’s easy to see why the world would be applauded and excited to get a glimpse of the long-awaited collaboration. I feel that too. But I can’t help but worry that there will be a rehash in 2023.

Will the movie be better? Yes, I think so. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool has consistently entertained across two movies. Director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum and Reynolds’ Free Guy) has the chance to bring his crowd-pleasing blockbuster family movie flair to the superhero genre, creating a fun movie that fans will love. It seems that he is determined to deliver. -Focused on the popcorn dish we had in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (we had a lot of fun blending three different eras of “Spider-Man” movies).

Capping it all off is Hugh Jackman’s triumphant return as Wolverine.

Jackman famously retired the character in the beautifully crafted “Logan,” and James Mangold’s sci-fi western “Old Man,” a character we’ve been wanting to see for years.・Logan” version is finally available. Jackman has said in the past that he would be happy to return if that were the case. Wolverine was scheduled to join the Avengers.. Whether that’s on the table remains to be seen, but for now, he’s once again digging his claws into making another fanboy dream come true.

wolverine and deadpool. together. On the big screen.

As you’ve probably guessed by now, there’s a lot to be excited about about this movie, not to mention the Fox X-Men cameo and multiverse rumors. Oh, and Secret Wars too? If you know, you know.

But if this movie is a hit (and it will be a hit no matter who sees it), will it signal a return to Marvel’s prioritization of entertaining audiences and staying true to the source material? Or will it be a temporary adrenaline rush in a movie that is constantly on the decline? The legacy of Marvel and Disney? In other words, will “Deadpool & Wolverine” become “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in 2024? only time will tell.

For now, we can only savor the anticipation. That’s understandable in a world where die-hard Marvel fans had little to look forward to.
