2 St. John’s players sue NCAA over extra year of eligibility

Two college basketball players are taking the issue to court, saying they are owed an extra year of NCAA eligibility.

Chris Ledlum and Jordan Dingle played in the Ivy League before transferring to St. John’s, but the 2020-21 Ivy League season was not held due to the pandemic.

However, the five-year waiver was denied by the NCAA, and the players are now suing in New York’s Queens Supreme Court.

The lawsuit claimed they suffered “irreparable harm” by not being granted an additional year of eligibility like most other athletes.

“The consequences for student-athletes deemed ineligible by the NCAA are dire. Consequences include loss of scholarships, diminished professional prospects, and inability to take advantage of name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities. “This includes disappearing,” the application states.

“If we have another year, there’s no reason we don’t want to be here,” Ledlum said. told Newsday. “I love Coach (Rick) Pitino, and this is home. I loved playing at St. John’s.”

“I love being in New York,” Dingle said. “I love being close to my family. I love the coaching staff and all of my teammates here. I had a really great time this season and I’m looking forward to picking up where I left off.”

Both players declared for the NBA Draft when their waivers were rejected, but they have until the end of next month to do so.
