Republican National Committee (RNC) co-chair Lara Trump criticized Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s killing of her dog on Friday’s “Sean Spicer Show,” saying that the Biden administration will not allow animals to be killed. He said euthanasia had increased by nearly “10 times”.
“Since Joe Biden took office, his policies have been harmful to every layer of society, including our family pets,” Lara Trump told the Daily Caller when asked about her comments in an interview. told. “Inflation has made life so difficult for so many American families that the euthanasia rate for dogs and cats is nearly four times higher than under President Donald Trump. and signed the Animal Cruelty and Torture Prevention Act, which makes animal abuse and mistreatment a federal crime and increases penalties for those who abuse animals in the United States.”
Trump appeared on “The Sean Spicer Show” and discussed the RNC’s future strategy against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and additional political topics as November approaches. Host Sean Spicer asked Noem what she thought about the recent story of the Republican governor shooting and killing his dog, Cricket, for “slaughtering livestock.” (Related: ‘Worst Spin’: Kristi Noem slams ‘fake news’ after being forced to backlash against dog killing)
“It’s well known how much time and effort you put into animal welfare work,” Spicer said. “This is the result of you doing a great job caring for dogs and other animals, raising a lot of money, and bringing a lot of light to this cause,” Kristi Noem writes in the book. Please tell me your reaction to that.”
“I think it’s very unfortunate, Sean,” President Trump said. “As you pointed out, I’ve worked a lot with rescue organizations in my life trying to make sure we save the people who depend on us. I think some of us can see that we are the best in this country. Rights are done for them. ”
“Just to quickly state for the audience, what we’re seeing right now in the animal welfare community is that the euthanasia rate for dogs and cats has increased by about 10 times since Joe Biden took office. “It’s going to increase in the near future,” she continued. “That’s because people can’t afford to own dogs and cats. They’re part of our family, you know? [I’ve] talk[ed] If I did that to people all over the country, they would say my dogs and cats are part of my family. But they have to make difficult decisions like this now because people’s lives are so difficult and our leadership at the top is so poor. ”
Trump went on to say that Noem said it was a “difficult decision,” but that the RNC co-chairs would have chosen a different option. “It’s obvious every time I hear about this situation that Kristi Noem wrote about in her book,” Trump continued. “I had to ask myself why I wasn’t looking for another option. I always say, if there’s anyone out there looking for a pet, please help me. I thought it would have been a shame, but I could have taken him to a shelter or animal shelter and given him to another family who might not have children and wasn’t worried about a slightly nervous dog. , given the fact that people make decisions all the time, you can never put yourself in someone else’s shoes. I understand that she points out that this was a very difficult decision.”
Marty Irby, CEO of Capitol South LLC, who led the Republican lobbying team that passed the Animal Cruelty and Torture Prevention Act, told the Daily Caller that President Trump and Lara Trump are “unrelenting advocates for animal welfare.” President Trump has “signed more animal protection bills than any president in modern history.”
Earlier this week, Noem appeared in an interview with Fox host Sean Hannity in which she slammed the backlash following the Guardian article as “fake news.” The Republican governor continued to defend his decision to kill Cricket, saying it was a choice between protecting the “safety” of a child and protecting a “dangerous animal.”
