A 65-year-old man is recovering after being bitten by a shark while spearfishing off the coast of South Carolina.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was bitten Thursday night about 32 miles off the coast of Charleston. WCSC reported.
The newspaper quoted Petty Officer 3rd Class Vincent Moreno as saying that passengers in the 8-metre boat in which the man was fishing were placed with tourniquets to stop the bleeding until the Coast Guard arrived.
Marine Corps police at the Port of Charleston eventually evaluated the man’s wounds at the scene and determined the bleeding had stopped, he said.
The fishing boat was then directed to Charleston Harbor and met up with emergency services near the Coast Guard station.

According to WCSC, the man was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
There was no update on his condition as of Saturday afternoon.
