J.J. Watt leaves door open for Texans if they ‘absolutely need it’

JJ Watt revealed he could return to the NFL with just a phone call if necessary.

On Saturday, at a charity softball game, Watt, who just completed his first season of retirement, told Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans that if the head coach needs him next season, he’ll be ready. That’s what it means.

It appears this is not the first time he has extended an offer.

“I had a great 12 years in this league, and I’m so grateful to be able to retire healthy and playing well,” he said. According to Brandon Scott of sports radio station Audacity Sports.. “I told Demeco last year, ‘Please don’t call me unless it’s absolutely necessary. But if you do, I’ll be there right away.'” I know I shouldn’t call it. This year is the last time I will tell him this. Because I’m not going to continue training like I used to. But he knows that if he really needs it, I’ll be there for him. I don’t expect that to happen, but they have a very good group. ”

The revealing comments came just days after Texans GM Nick Caserio appeared on the scene. On “The Pat McAfee Show” McAfee asked him Thursday about the possibility of a return from Watt.

Mr. Caserio never stopped thinking about the idea.

“I’m not going to talk about what he wants to do in terms of playing football. I’ll let that come out on the show,” he said Thursday. “It’s very fast, it’s May now, the season doesn’t start until September, and then we’ll be looking at players on a case-by-case basis at the end of October, end of November. [Tom] Brady, let’s see who comes back first. ”

Brady, who will be in Fox’s No. 1 NFL booth this year, recently hinted at a possible return.

Watt, 35, has not ruled out the possibility of coming out of retirement on the 20th. At the McAfee show last fall, When McAfee pressed him about the appeal of the Steelers, especially the presence of his brother TJ Watt.

The former star played 10 seasons (2011-2020) with the Texans, earning three Defensive Player of the Year awards, five Pro Bowl nominations and five All-Pro honors.

He finished his career at Arizona in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
