Luxury fitness chain Equinox is set to launch the world’s most expensive annual gym membership at $40,000 a year, promising to help members live healthier and longer lives.
The program, dubbed “Optimize by Equinox,” was created in partnership with lab-testing startup Function Health to provide high-net-worth participants with personalized health services such as personal training, nutrition and sleep coaching, and massage therapy. Create a plan.
Announced on Monday, reported earlier CNBCthis expensive program was developed by gurus like Brian Johnson, a tech mogul turned anti-aging enthusiast who spent more than $2 million on controversial treatments to beat Father Time. The model capitalizes on the rapidly growing longevity market.
Based in Austin, Texas, Function Health is a membership-based platform that gives customers access to more than 100 clinical tests for all major biological functions, including thyroid, hormones, cancer detection, heavy metals, and Alzheimer’s disease. Already making money in a growing market by offering: Risk tests and other tests are performed to help prolong a patient’s life.
Optimize runs members $3,000 per month for a minimum of six months, or $36,000 annually.
This price does not include the annual Equinox gym membership, which is about $4,000, bringing the total cost to about $40,000.
If you think the price is too high, you’re not alone.
“I can’t imagine my patients being able to afford something like that.” Dr. Brynta BassagerA family medicine doctor based in Delaware told the Post.
According to CNBC, the Optimize program will first be available in New York City starting in late May, followed by Highland Park, Texas, and eventually other states.
The program begins with a series of tests run by Function Health that searches for 100 biomarkers.
Equinox, which has 107 locations around the world, then offers VO2 max (a maximal oxygen consumption test that measures how much oxygen a person can use during intense exercise) and muscle strength and range of motion checks. We will be conducting our own series of fitness tests, including:
“This is truly a paradigm shift in how we live with vitality and avoid suffering,” Function Health co-founder Jonathan Swerdlin told CNBC. Ta. “It deals with the abs and buttocks that are above the surface, and when you look in the mirror you see them looking great. But it also deals with what’s below the surface and what you can’t see in the mirror. And it’s revolutionary. is.”
The test is repeated twice a year, according to CNBC.
Equinox’s “Concierge” brings together the results of all your fitness and health data to design a personalized plan to improve your overall health and fitness.
To execute this plan, each member will have a core team that includes a fitness trainer, nutrition coach, sleep coach, and massage therapist.
Equinox’s top trainers work with Optimize members in three 60-minute training lessons per week.
In addition to working on their fitness goals, Optimize members also receive two 30-minute sessions per week with a nutrition coach, a 30-minute session with a sleep coach, and a massage therapy session once a month. can.
In total, the program equates to 16 hours of coaching and training per month, CNBC reports.
While this initiative may be promising, one of the problems identified by Basagar was the apparent lack of medical professionals.
“What would you do if you found out you had cancer or your thyroid levels were abnormal?” Vasagal wondered. Personal trainers, nutritionists and “concierges” can optimize our health, but they can’t solve everything, the doctor pointed out. “There are some medical diagnoses that cannot be cured, no matter how much you eat, exercise, sleep, massage, etc.”
Currently, anyone interested in becoming an Optimize member can join the waiting list through the Equinox website. Registration requires only your full name and email address.
It was not immediately clear how Equinox would select members for the expensive program or when they would be contacted to formally sign up.
“It’s the same with F1 and athletes, where we have a team of top experts from different fields to design a program based on all the data we collect,” said Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business. says Julia Krim. She spoke to CNBC about the development at Equinox.
“We sometimes joke, but we’ve always been in the longevity business, but the science is catching up,” Krim added.
Bassager thought it might be a worthwhile investment if money wasn’t an issue.
“If you have the disposable income to spend that much money on optimizing your health, what is more valuable than your health?” Basagal said.
The new program comes at a time when Equinox is planning 27 new clubs, including Philadelphia and Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles.
