Introducing the Quadroin AUV, a bio-inspired underwater robot that is making waves in underwater research.
This autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), which mimics the swift and graceful swimming of penguins, is the brainchild of German underwater technology company EvoLogics.
Evolution of Quadroin
That journey began with Pinguin, an experimental AUV that demonstrated its potential in 2020. The Quadroin was inspired by the locomotion of Adélie penguins studied by Dr. Rudolf Banash. It’s not just a passing idea. The concept dates back to his 2009 AquaPenguin, developed for Festo.

Dig deeper: 2nd generation Quadroin
Back last month, the scientific community was abuzz with the announcement of the second generation Quadroin. Designed for a wide range of applications, it features advanced equipment such as side-scan sonar and dual HD cameras, all illuminated by LED spotlights for low-light underwater adventures.

The driving force behind technology
Four thrusters propel it to depths of 492 feet and speeds up to 11.5 miles per hour, making Quadroin a powerful vessel. The lithium-ion battery promises her 10 hours of exploration on a 6-hour charge, making her perfect for ocean marathon runners.
What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

Fusion of smart navigation and AI
But it’s not just bravado. There are also many brains. Quadroin is equipped with a state-of-the-art AI object recognition module and Nortek Nucleus1000 subsea navigation package to ensure you know where you’re going and what you’re looking at.

abyssal autonomy
Like its AUV counterpart, Quadroin follows a pre-programmed path to collect valuable data about the marine environment. Once resurfaced, this data can be transmitted via Wi-Fi or satellite thanks to the multifunctional antenna, which also provides a light show for assistance. search.

Looking to the future: A bright future for Quadroin
EvoLogics is getting ready With production starting later this year, commercial clients are already taking notice of this sleek penguin-like innovation.

Cart important points
The Quadroin AUV represents a major step forward in our ability to study and protect the oceans. By harnessing penguins’ migratory efficiency, EvoLogics has created a tool that overcomes the challenges of underwater exploration and brings us closer to understanding the mysteries of the deep sea. As we look to the future, Quadroin reminds us of the endless possibilities of bio-inspired technology.
