Tornadoes, Flooding, and Other Severe Storms Impact 5 States

Multiple storms, including 15 tornadoes, hit parts of the Midwest earlier this week and early Wednesday.according to CBN News, a huge tornado touched down in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, destroying several homes and businesses. An employee working at his Hampton Inn witnessed the moment the storm hit the hotel.

Meanwhile, a family in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, managed to escape their home after a tornado passed through their neighborhood. A nursing home in Barnsdall was also damaged.

“Please pray for us,” the 38-bed facility wrote on social media.

Fortunately, no one was killed or injured, but the team was temporarily moved to the soccer field due to a gas leak.

At least 15 tornadoes touched down overnight, including at least seven in northern Oklahoma, the National Weather Service said.

In Texas, people are cleaning up as waters recede after last weekend’s heavy rains caused massive flooding. Hundreds of people were eventually rescued from their homes in the Houston area.

Governor Greg Abbott announced that at least three people were killed in the severe storm, including a child who was swept away by floodwaters. Meanwhile, 91 counties have declared a state of disaster.

Additionally, thousands of power outages were reported across the Midwest. As reported, Associated PressTwo tornadoes ripped through a Michigan city, destroying homes and commercial buildings, including a FedEx facility.

Tornadoes were reported for the first time since Tuesday night in parts of Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, and tornado watches also remained in place in parts of Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri, the National Weather Service said. The storm arrived a day after a violent twister struck a town in Oklahoma.

More than 30,000 customers were without power in Michigan early Wednesday, and another 10,000 in Ohio were without power, according to PowerOutage.us.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by tonight’s severe weather in Southwest Michigan,” Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said on social media. “State and local emergency teams are on the ground and working together to assist Michiganders.”

Whitman also declared a state of emergency in four counties.
