NYC police search for suspects in cash-for-crypto deal gone bad

According to the NYPD, the 40-year-old victim claims his friend arranged a meeting with an unknown person at the Sonder Battery Park Hotel on April 27 to exchange cash and virtual currency.

The victim told police that she met an unknown man in the lobby and followed him to a room on the third floor, where the suspect pushed her to the floor inside.

Two men unknown to the victim were waiting in the room, but when all three suspects jumped the victim, he was beaten and his ankles, wrists and mouth were tied with tape.

Police said the suspects stole $20,000 in cash from the victim’s bag and “fled on foot to an unknown location.”
