Former NBA forward and college basketball legend Glenn “Big Baby” Davis was sentenced Thursday by a federal judge to 40 months in prison and three years of supervised release. His punishment follows a November 2023 conviction for his role in a scheme to defraud the NBA’s health benefits plan, according to ESPN.
A total of 22 people, including 18 former players such as Keyon Dooling and Terrence Williams, were also sentenced in the same case for filing fraudulent medical claims through the NBA Player Health Benefits Plan, the publication reported. Williams was accused of masterminding the entire operation, which the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York described as “an extensive scheme to steal millions of dollars.” Williams was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023, the newspaper said.
Other than Williams, no other former NBA player has received as many prison sentences as “Big Baby.” According to ESPN, former NBA guard William Bynum, who was convicted along with Davis in November, was sentenced to 18 months in prison in April, but part of that punishment was based on oaths sworn to jurors. It is said that this was caused by the fact that he had lied.
