Commanders’ Jayden Daniels and Giants’ Malik Nabers call off Rookie of the Year wager

A $10,000 bet between Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabors for the NFL’s Rookie of the Year title didn’t last long.

The former LSU teammates decided to call off the bet.

“We weren’t educated about the NFL’s gambling policies,” Daniels said after the first practice of the manager’s rookie minicamp.

“I found out about it last night. He and I talked it over and canceled the bet. Of course, we don’t want to cause any trouble.”

News of the bet surfaced after Daniels and Nabers recently appeared on a podcast.

The NFL and other major U.S. professional sports leagues have in recent years disciplined players who violate gambling rules. Although the bet between Daniels and Nabers would have been made without the sportsbook’s involvement, it could still be considered a violation.

“I came here and learned about sports betting and gambling,” Neighbors said after the Giants’ rookie minicamp in East Rutherford, New Jersey. “We’re canceling the bet. There’s no betting now. It was just another brother pushing another brother to succeed. That was it.”

Daniels’ wallet is already a little lighter after reaching an agreement with punter Tress Way, the University of Washington’s longest-tenured player, to wear the same No. 5 jersey he wore at LSU and Arizona State. There is a possibility that it has become. Mr. Daniels did not disclose the terms of the deal, but thanked Mr. Way for his cooperation in completing the deal.

“Obviously it was very difficult for him, but it had sentimental value for him and me,” Daniels said. “He’s a legend here, so we’re very grateful to him for letting us put on the jersey.”

“He’s a stud,” said McCaffrey, a third-round pick from Rice. “He’s a great quarterback and a really fun person to play with, personality-wise. So I really enjoyed the just 24 hours I spent with him in Washington, D.C.”
