Northamptonshire Police say a teenage boy has died after falling into difficulty while swimming in the River Nene.
Ronalds Abel, 17, was swimming at the Embankment in Wellingborough on Friday when he was pulled from the water by emergency services after falling into difficulty.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A police statement posted on social media said: “A 17-year-old boy from Wellingborough has tragically died following a drowning incident in the town.”
It added: “Police, paramedics and the fire brigade were called to the scene just after 1.45pm.” [on Friday] following reports that a teenage boy was having difficulty swimming in the open waters of the embankment.
“Firefighters from Rushden and Urslingborough and specialist teams from Mereway rescued the boy and he was airlifted to Northampton General Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.
“Today, the police [Saturday] They named the teenager Ronalds Abel. ”
A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “This is a tragic incident and Ronald’s family would like to request privacy at this very sad time.”
