North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum front and center at Trump New Jersey rally

North Dakota Governor and former presidential candidate Doug Burgum took center stage at Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on Saturday, placing him among an increasingly short list of running mate candidates. There is growing speculation that he remains a candidate.

Burgum was a guest on President Trump’s campaign project “Trump Force One.” Before the former president took to the stage, he briefly addressed the crowd.

Burgum said working with President Trump was “like having a beautiful wind at my back.”

“President Trump respects states’ rights. He has cut regulations, he has lowered taxes,” Burgum said. “Working under the Biden regulatory regime is like having a strong wind in your face.”

President Trump denies report that he is “considering” Nikki Haley to become vice president, “I wish her the best!”

Later in Trump’s speech, he praised Burgum, saying, “He probably knows more about energy than anyone I know.”

He then said, “So, get ready for something, okay? Just get ready,” without elaborating.

Last weekend, President Trump held a gathering closed to the press at the Four Seasons Hotel and Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach with a list of major donors and “special guests.”

Among them were a number of Republican politicians, including Burgum, who is believed to be on President Trump’s short list of running mates.
