A police pursuit across two states that involved two separate gunfights with law enforcement officers and multiple crashes ended with the death of a woman being investigated, authorities said.
Wilmington police began tracking a 23-year-old woman at a Delaware residence shortly before noon Tuesday and are attempting to arrest her on a warrant stemming from a December 2023 shooting. She fled her home in her car, crashed into multiple police vehicles, and then drove north on Interstate 95 toward Pennsylvania, where Wilmington police officers and Delaware State Police troopers stopped her. tracked her down.

Shortly after entering Pennsylvania, the woman crashed her car and fired at officers, causing two officers to return fire, authorities said. Officials said it was unclear at the time whether the woman was shot.

The woman then carjacked another car and drove to Chester, where she crashed it into a structure. She then entered her home and encountered her mother with her baby, before she got into another car and attempted to flee again, authorities said.
However, several police officers, including three Wilmington police officers, five Delaware state police officers, and individual Pennsylvania State Trooper and Chester police officers, began firing at the vehicle, causing the woman to succumb to her injuries. He died soon after on the spot.
The woman’s name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
A Wilmington police officer was treated at a hospital for undisclosed minor injuries. No other injuries were reported in the pursuit or related incidents.

The Wilmington police officer who fired the shots has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation, which is standard policy in police-related shootings. Authorities have not released the names of the officers involved in the chase or shooting.
