A bill aimed at removing illegal immigrants from the United States if they assault police officers passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday night.
This is one of several bills House Republican leaders are putting forward for a vote this week as part of National Police Week.
The bill passed by a vote of 265-148, with 54 Democrats joining Republicans in voting yes.

The bill is called the “Detention and Deportation of Illegal Aliens Who Assault Police Officers Act,” and is sponsored by Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R.N.J.).
