A new leader at the top after Round 1

The first round of the PGA Championship has begun, and a new favorite has emerged at the top of BetMGM Sportsbook’s odds board.

Xander Schauffele is the leader in the clubhouse heading into Friday’s game after shooting a 62, the second major of his golf career, and oddsmakers give him the best chance to earn his first career major win. is giving.

Schauffele is now +275 to winning the tournament, a jump from +1400 pre-tournament, when he was tied for third-best odds before teeing off Thursday.

Schauffele overtook Scottie Scheffler, who entered the PGA Championship as the biggest favorite to win the tournament in more than a decade.

Scheffler, who won the Masters and has won four of his past five matches, entered Friday’s play with a 4-under 67 and tied for 10th place.

Rory McIlroy, who entered the tournament as the second favorite, shot a 5-under 65, tied for fourth on the leaderboard, aiming to win his first major in 10 years.

At +500, he forms a clear top three with Schauffele and Scheffler.

Current PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka is also a candidate at -4.

Koepka has the fourth-best odds at +1400, along with Collin Morikawa, who beat Koepka by one stroke at -5, rounding out the top five at BetMGM.

Pre-tournament longshots Saheeth Segala (+2200) and Tony Finau (+2500) are on the outside of the inner-circle contenders with six-under rounds on Thursday.

Golf legends Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson showed flashes but didn’t make much noise on the odds or leaderboards, shooting 1-over and 3-over, respectively.
