The original “Big Bang Theory” spinoff show “Young Sheldon” ended Thursday night after seven seasons, but that’s not the end.
A third show in that world is being produced on CBS and is called “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.”
The series, which will premiere in fall 2024 and is directed by Chuck Lorre, Stephen Molaro, and Steve Holland, will focus on Sheldon’s younger brother George “Georgie” Cooper Jr. (Montana Jordan), who plays Mandy McAllister ( The film depicts him marrying Emily Osment and having a child.
“Honestly, just like we’ve seen with those two actors the last few seasons, [of ‘Young Sheldon’] And given how much fun they had on screen, it became clear that this could be fun to watch in hindsight,” Holland told the Post.
“And to continue to tell the story of this universe and this family through these two characters.”
As the title suggests, Georgie and Mandy may not find “everlasting happiness” on their first go-around.
In The Big Bang Theory, when Jerry O’Connell plays the adult Georgie, it is revealed that he has been married and divorced twice.
Holland said First Marriage is a title that “we’re really looking forward to.”
He also said that he never expected to get a spin-off show.
“We didn’t really have any big plans when we brought Emily in. Emily has always been kind of our M.O.,” he explained.
“Like when I brought Mame with me. [Bialik] and Melissa Rausch of “The Big Bang Theory,” there was no grand plan for them to become cast members. I just brought it in and it was so delicious that I brought it back again. And something similar happened to Emily. ”
He said Mandy was originally intended to be a “one-off” character, with Georgie going on a date with a slightly older woman.
“And Emily was amazing. So we decided to bring her back and get her pregnant. She was so fun to watch, and she and Montana had such great chemistry. She’s the star of the show. It just became part of the building blocks.”
Original “Big Bang Theory” stars Jim Parsons and Bialik appear in the final episode of “Young Sheldon.”
So, could Ian Armitage, who plays young Sheldon, be cast in Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding?
“It’s still early days and we haven’t shot anything yet,” Holland explained.
But the characters still live in the fictional town of Medford, Texas, and “this is still their family. I mean, Sheldon is at Caltech, but that doesn’t mean he goes back on vacation.” That doesn’t mean it won’t come.
He added, “We hope to be a world where these characters can drop in from time to time. We also want to make sure that the new show has its own identity and isn’t just a cavalcade of cameos.” That’s also important to us. But we definitely think there’s room for this family in this show.”
