Former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub has responded to and denied some claims Ronda Rousey made about him in her book.
Rousey’s claims stem from leaked excerpts from the book “Our Fight” posted on Reddit, in which she discusses her feelings about her ex-boyfriend Schaub facing off against her current husband Travis Browne at UFC 181 in 2014. was spelled out.
Rousey claimed that Schaub “enjoyed playing crazy mind games” with her during their relationship, especially when “fights were coming up.”
Schaub responded to the claims by saying the “mind games” may mean Rousey simply hasn’t been in touch with her.
“When she says mind games, no, it’s not mind games, to be honest, mind games are from her camp,” Schaub said on the podcast.fighter and kid. ”
“I had nothing to do with it. Mind games? I guess that means it wasn’t a match,” he said, explaining that the two never intended to become a couple.
Schaub then further disputed Rousey’s claims about what happened during the fight with Brown, especially the ending.
“When Travis knocked him out at the end of the first round, I thought I couldn’t be happier,” Rousey said in the excerpt, narrated on the podcast by co-host Brian Cullen.
“To be fair, TKO. Ground and pound. First lie,” Schaub interjected.
Karen went on to read:
“My ex-boyfriend was on the ground while Travis was punching him away, and Travis was punching him away. The referee ended the match, and Travis was left crumpled and unconscious. She was towering over my ex-boyfriend, and I bent down to whisper something in his ear.
Schaub refused.
“I didn’t pass out, I didn’t collapse. I was in downward dog position. I was fully conscious.”
“The difference is that even if I wrote a book, she wouldn’t be in my book. It’s not an event in my life that I would write about in a book.”
Karen then read Rousey’s final claim about Schaub:
“His words couldn’t be heard on camera, but I’m pretty sure I heard Travis say, ‘Ronda’s calling you an asshole,'” Rousey recalled in her book.
“That never happened. … I don’t think he said, ‘I’m saying Rhonda is an asshole,'” Schaub said immediately.
“Didn’t he come into your locker room and tell you he was glad you were okay?” Karen asked.
“The back one, yeah. He’s cool. There’s nothing wrong with him,” Schaub said of Brown.
“But why bring it up after 14 years? I mean, she has kids, and it obviously worked out. [for her] And that’s just life,” Schaub added.
The former UFC heavyweight explained that while he meant no disrespect to Rousey, he doesn’t understand why he would appear on her book. He then told her that he would not include her as his own.
“The difference is, if I were to write a book, she wouldn’t be in my book. It’s not an event in my life that I would put in a book.”
“It’s an honor, isn’t it?” Schaub added later.
Schaub partially defended Rousey’s comments that the mixed martial arts media, including Joe Rogan, had turned their backs on her. In other interviews about her book, Rousey called her media representatives phonies and “a bunch of idiots.”
“I think it’s unfair the way the media treats her, but there’s some justification in the way she treats the media.” [and] That’s part of her comment,” Schaub argued.
He went on to praise Rousey, saying he is a big fan of her personality and work ethic, and how she has broken barriers for women in mixed martial arts.
“People forget what Ronda did for women’s mixed martial arts. Without Ronda, there would be no women’s mixed martial arts.”
