Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, released a statement Friday morning following his arrest outside Valhalla Golf Club.
“This morning, I was acting on instructions from a police officer,” the statement said. , I had a huge misunderstanding of what I thought was being asked of me. I never intended to ignore the instructions. Today I’d like to put that aside and focus on golf. .
“Of course, everyone involved in the tournament would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the man who died in this morning’s accident. It really puts everything into perspective.”

According to the Associated Press,
“Traffic was backed up for about a mile in both directions on the only road leading to Valhalla Golf Club, and dozens of police vehicles flashed red and blue lights near the entrance,” the Associated Press reported.

“Police said the pedestrian was struck by the bus while crossing the road in a tournament lane. World No. 1 Scheffler was scheduled to start the second round at 8:48 a.m., according to ESPN. said he drove past the officer in an SUV with markings on the door identifying it as a PGA Championship vehicle, and the officer yelled at Scheffler to stop, until Scheffler stopped after about 10 yards. of Fee Charges against Scheffler include second-degree assault on a police officer (a felony), third-degree criminal mischief (a misdemeanor), reckless driving, and failure to signal a traffic-directing officer (a misdemeanor).
After being booked, Scheffler was released from custody and returned to Valhalla for a practice session before tee time for the second round.
