The 150th Kentucky Derby produced a historic finish as Mystic Dan defeated Sierra Leone and Forever Young by a nose in a photo finish. Sierra Leone took first place and Forever Young took third place.
Can Mystic Dan win the second leg of the Triple Crown at the 149th Preakness Stakes later today?
This week, Muth, an early favorite in the field, I got hurt on Wednesday.. The moose, trained by Bob Baffert, developed a temperature of 103 degrees and suffered injuries shortly after arriving at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
“We’re tired of this.” Baffert said:. “The horse was doing very well. But we have to do the right thing with the horse.”
While this may make life a little easier for Mystic Dan, trainer Kenny McPeek knows it only adds to the pressure at the moment. “Oh my god.” McPeek said earlier this week.. “I think that puts more pressure on us, but he’s ready.”

With Moose scratched, Mystic Dan will enter today’s Preakness Stakes as the favorite. But McPeek believes the horse, which he describes as an “old soul”, is ready.
That made his job easier.
“He’s a really quiet horse. I used the term for him being an old soul. Nothing bothers him, so it makes our job really easy.” told reporters this week. “He’s been in the Oak Lawn paddock before, and it’s a similar paddock to Oak Lawn. We keep it simple, not complicated.”
But a tough finish at Churchill Downs a few weeks ago could spell trouble for Mystic Dan, who was pushed to the limit to win a photo finish. As for who could take on Mystic Dan later today, Catching Freedom and Imagination were both listed at 6-1, right behind Mystic Dan’s 5-2.
Imagination, also trained by Baffert, finished second in the Santa Anita Derby in his last race. “Imagination is embedded in his frame.” explained Baffert.he is bred to go [1 3/16-mile] distance. A beautiful, well-balanced horse. ”
As for Catching Freedom, the Brad Cox-trained horse finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby. “Running these horses within two weeks may not be as common as it once was.” Cox said this week.. “It basically depends on how the horse is doing, but we’re happy with the way he’s been trained. He’s lined up with that group of horses based on who we hear is running – Conclusion.”
