Mystic Dan entered the Preakness Stakes as the favorite.
But Saturday was Seize The Grey’s day.
Kentucky Derby winner Mystic Dan did pretty well, but Says the Gray took an early lead along with Imagination. Seize The Gray held the lead at the half-mile mark, followed again by Imagination and Mystik Dan.
However, when the field changed from home, Mystic Dan sprung into action and attempted to pursue Says the Gray. But that wasn’t enough. Seize The Gray carried the day.
Mystic Dan became the favorite, with odds on the Kentucky Derby winner rising from 5/2 to 3-1 in the hours before the Preakness Stakes, then back down to 5/2. Catching Freedom was listed at 7/2 earlier than post time, while Tuscan Gold and Imagination were both listed at 4-1.
Seize The Gray ranked 8-1.
Rain fell in Maryland from Friday night into Saturday, leaving the Preakness track with a muddy surface, the first time in more than 80 years that the field faced muddy conditions at the event.
This makes D. Wayne Lucas, 88, the oldest trainer to win a Triple Crown race. Jaime Torres, making his Triple Crown debut, rode Sheez the Gray to victory.

What’s next after horse racing’s Triple Crown?
The third and final race in horse racing’s Triple Crown race is the Belmont Stakes. This year’s Belmont Stakes is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th, and will be the 156th edition.
However, things will be a little different this year.
Due to Belmont Park undergoing renovations, this year’s Belmont Stakes will be held at Saratoga Race Course rather than historic Belmont Park.
