Embattled Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis survived a challenge in Tuesday night’s primary election and will face off against a Republican challenger in November.

Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, led the wide-ranging 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump and accused numerous Republicans in the state and across the country of having an extramarital affair with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. Since then, she has been the subject of intense scrutiny, which almost led to her being fired. From the case.

Willis defeated Democratic lawyer Christian Wise Smith on Tuesday in a rematch of a race from four years ago. His victory was favored in the county, which voted 73% for President Joe Biden in 2020.

Senator Chuck GrassleySen. John F. Kennedy, a Republican from Iowa, and Sen. He accused him of misusing the funds and using them to buy computers and “stolen goods.”

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan, Republican, Ohio. subpoenaed Willis in February on suspicion of misappropriating federal funds.

But Willis insists these investigations are based on “false grounds.”

“Jim Jordan has repeatedly attacked my office without any legitimate purpose,” Willis told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Monday. “Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s history knows that his sole purpose is to try to interfere with criminal investigations.”

“Even though his jurisdiction has one of the worst crime rates and poverty issues, people attack me and attack others who are doing legitimate work. “He never tried to use his position to investigate,” she added. “It’s disgusting to make him illegitimate in that position. That’s why I bring it up at the federal level. Because at the state level, they decided to follow this clown’s lead. And they is now trying to intervene in the investigation. And that’s not legal either.”

“These guys in Georgia decided to attack me, and they’re using false reasons to attack me,” Willis said during a media appearance.

Earlier this month, georgia state senator I heard testimony from one Republican senator who expressed concern that Mr. Willis’ oversight of the $36.6 million budget was “like the Wild West, with very little control.”

But Trump and his co-defendants are appealing that decision to the Georgia Court of Appeals, where they plan to disqualify Willis from the case.
