A seemingly routine medical request on a quiet, virtually crime-free suburban cul-de-sac escalates into a deadly confrontation between police and residents.
While tending to a 78-year-old woman who called for emergency medical assistance, responding officers discovered a fugitive with multiple outstanding warrants and attempted to handcuff her, police said. That’s what it means.
But he didn’t come peacefully: Police in North Castle, New York, a wealthy suburb about 40 miles north of midtown Manhattan, said the man grabbed a knife during the melee and attacked the arresting officers.
One of the officers shot the knife-wielding suspect twice in the leg and chest.

The 38-year-old suspect and the police officer were both injured during the struggle and taken to a nearby hospital. No criminal charges have been filed as of Tuesday night and the suspects have not been released.
North Castle police say all injuries are non-life-threatening and everyone involved is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said the suspect is a resident but has not confirmed his relationship to the homeowner who called for medical assistance.

But the violent confrontation inside the sprawling $3.4 million, 2.5-acre mansion on Monday afternoon disrupted an otherwise peaceful and scenic neighborhood along Hallock Place in Armonk, a small hamlet within the town of North Castle.
The house looked deserted from the outside, but like almost all the houses in the area, it was an isolated plot of land, separated by large lots and tall trees and shrubbery.

Ronnie Elias, who lives nearby, told FOX News Digital that he doesn’t know the residents of the home, but his wife has spoken to neighbors who know the family and they are shocked. He said no.
“One of the neighbors said no one should be surprised, there have been problems at that house before,” Elias said. “This area is supposed to be safe, but when this first happened it panicked me, my family and our neighbors.

“I understand that (crimes) happen all over the country, but it’s really shocking to see it happen here…I hope everyone is OK. If you need psychological help, please get help. You can get it.”
Criminal charges are pending and a bedside arraignment could take place as early as this week, police told Fox News Digital.

As part of the process, the police-involved shooting will be investigated by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, which is also simultaneously investigating an alleged knife attack on an officer.
