Everyone knows the iconic photo of the smiling man holding the lectern on January 6th, but not everyone knows his story, especially his prison story.
And as Dallas filmmaker and January 6th protester Luke Coffee awaits a new prison sentence for his participation in that fateful day, Adam Johnson shares his sympathy. I feel like I want to.
“The food is the best part,” Johnson said of the coffee and Blaze TV “Prime Time With alex stein“Alex Stein.
“I work during the week and then on the weekends we all get together and we make food and cheesecake,” Johnson said.
“It seems like where I was originally put was a lot worse than where you were. There was no cheesecake, there was a lot of fuss,” Coffee said, adding, “I was in a convict prison in the middle of Texas, like a small town in Texas, and I was the only J6er there. You know, everyone was a high-level felon, so it was a little bit of a different story.”
“It sounds more like a country club experience,” Coffee tells Johnson. “So I’m expecting that.”
The coffee service times were completely different from the country club experience.
“My guard was a ‘messmouth’ and he was passing drugs around all the time. There were eight of us in the prison. We were eight people in a 15×30 cell, but we didn’t get pills because it was still COVID,” Coffee explained. “I went to the prison six times, and most of the people there were my brothers, some of them Mexican brothers.”
Johnson had a different experience, but it was also tough for him at times.
“The rest of the week is awful, but there are moments where I get like 15 to 20 minutes where I feel like I’m not in jail. We cook, we talk sports,” Johnson said, surprising him with coffee.
“I think God is in your heart because of your joyful demeanor,” Coffee commented, and Stein agreed.
“100 percent,” Stein said, adding, “When it comes to January 6th, he’s the most positive guy I’ve ever seen.”
