Rick Scott announces bid to become Senate GOP leader

Sen. Rick Scott of Florida has announced his candidacy for the position of Senate Republican Leader, a post currently held by Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who announced earlier this year that his current term as Senate Republican Leader would be his final.

“We rarely work with House Republicans and too often pass bills in the Senate that are supported by 100% of Democrats and only a quarter of the Republican Conference,” Scott wrote in a memo to colleagues. Posted X article by Stef Kight of Axios.

“I believe dramatic changes are needed to save our country.”

“Too often, we vote in ways that divide us and unite Democrats. Republicans across the country want the Republicans they elected to the Senate to stop caving to Democratic demands,” Scott said. “Senate Republican leadership should reflect the views and desires of Republican voters. It’s no secret that Republican voters believe we’re not fighting hard enough on the issues they care about.”

“Now is not the time for small tweaks. I believe dramatic change is needed to save our country. That’s why I’m running for Republican leadership,” he declared.

Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota have previously indicated they want to run for Senate Republican leadership posts.

Scott is seeking reelection to the Senate this year and served as Florida’s governor before that.

Mike Lee of Utah Explained Scott is a “dear friend and true conservative” I got it.“We have six months until the leadership election, which will take place a few weeks after the November general election. We will not make a final decision on how we will vote until we have had the opportunity to fully hear each candidate’s views.”
