Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) sent a clear message to illegal immigrants on Thursday, warning that President Joe Biden’s wide-open border will be closed again if former President Donald Trump is re-elected.
Nehls introduced the Accountability Through Deportation (ATD) Act, a bill that would impose substantial penalties on aliens who attempt to evade law enforcement and disappear into the interior of the United States.
Under current law, when an alien flees from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) custody and does not comply with the conditions of his or her release, DHS must expend resources to track him or her down and wait for an immigration judge to order the alien’s deportation. Senator Nehls’ bill would require immigration judges to order the deportation of aliens who do not comply with the conditions of their immigration release.
Nehls’s concise, two-page bill would force the Biden administration to adhere to the successful policies of the Trump administration.
“President Trump’s border policy has been to release aliens at the southwest border only in ‘extremely urgent circumstances,'” Neals said in a statement to Breitbart News. “Under Joe Biden’s failed leadership, more than 7.8 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States through our porous southern border, many of whom have then been released from custody without adequate oversight and disappeared into American communities.”

“Until President Trump is back in the White House, we must deport illegal immigrants who do not comply with release orders at all costs. Illegal immigrants, a warning: comply or we will find you and we will deport you.”
According to Nehls’ office, Homeland Security officials will have caseloads of more than 6.2 million aliens, the vast majority of whom are not in custody, by the end of fiscal year 2023. His bill would help manage this overwhelming caseload by ensuring that aliens who knowingly obstruct immigration enforcement and flee are severely penalized.
The ATD Act is based on the ATD Reform Act, a bill introduced by Representative Byron Donald (R-FL). help Law enforcement will track immigrants. The bill, co-sponsored by Nehls with more than a dozen other Republicans, would require law enforcement to use both biometric and GPS technology to pinpoint the exact location of illegal immigrants.
Nehls’ approach to illegal immigration is significantly different from Biden’s. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., will introduce a failed immigration aid bill in early 2024 as part of a broader deal to unlock tens of millions of dollars in foreign aid.
While the bill is certain to be defeated again, the standalone vote gives Democrats seeking reelection an advantage in a year when Biden’s threat of a border crisis remains a top concern for Americans.
Nehls is considered one of Trump’s strongest supporters on Capitol Hill. In May, he appeared outside a Manhattan courtroom where Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s lawsuit against Trump was wrapping up, wearing a tie bearing a photo of Trump’s iconic defiant face.
