MADRID (AP) — Spanish national police provided details Friday of the incident that saw a building housing a bar and restaurant club collapse on the island of Mallorca, killing four people.
Police said two German women, aged 20 and 30, a Spanish woman, aged 33, and a Senegalese man, aged 44, were killed. The Spanish woman worked at the club.
Palma de Mallorca Mayor Jaime Martinez and fire department spokesman Eder Garcia told reporters that excessive weight on the first-floor terrace may have been the cause of Thursday’s collapse.
Sixteen people were injured, five of them in a serious condition, and are being treated at a local hospital. Details of their nationalities are not yet available.
