
An elderly man has been found dead after a Brooklyn fire that authorities say was deliberately set, part of a deadly night in New York that left two people dead and five injured in separate incidents.
According to police, the body of the victim, 70, was discovered in a bedroom at 371 Monroe St. in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 11:15 p.m. Friday, and a 65-year-old woman was taken to Woodhull Hospital with smoke inhalation.
The city medical examiner will determine the cause of death, but the New York City Fire Department’s fire chief has determined the fire was intentionally set.
The woman is being questioned as part of the fire investigation, which is ongoing, law enforcement sources said.
Less than an hour later, a 21-year-old man was shot in the head in front of 140 Moore Street in Williamsburg and was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.
Later, another 20-year-old man walked into Woodhull Hospital with gunshot wounds to the head, ear and leg and claimed he had been shot on the same street, police said. No arrests have been made.
Police said a woman was grazed in the neck by a gunshot wound around 1:10 a.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of Union Street in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
The 19-year-old victim is in stable condition at Brookdale Hospital. No arrests have been made.
Just after 2 a.m. Saturday, Bronx police said two women armed with a knife and a gun attacked a 27-year-old woman in front of 1881 Walton Avenue in Mount Hope, slashing her face and head.
She is in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital. No arrests have been made.
Police said a 19-year-old man was shot in the back while walking in the 1900 block of Park Avenue in East Harlem around 2:30 a.m. and was later listed in stable condition at Harlem Hospital. No arrests have been made.
According to police, the deadly incident began shortly before 6 p.m. Friday when a man was shot in the right leg inside 1825 Topping Avenue in Mount Hope in the Bronx.
Police said the victim, 37, later died in St. Barnabas and one person was taken into custody.
