Former President Trump on Saturday slammed independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after the former vice president criticized his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic while in the White House.
“Don’t waste your Republican and Conservative votes on juniors,” Trump said. Written on Saturday On Truth Social: “He’s one of the most liberal lunatics to ever run for office. He caused a massive energy price spike in New York and New England. He just admitted that there’s actually nothing wrong with the vaccine.”
“A fake Radical Left fool whose poll numbers are awful and getting worse,” he added. “His campaign is falling apart and there is major discord!!!”
The former president’s comments came a day after Kennedy alleged that President Trump and his administration violated people’s First Amendment rights by implementing certain health guidelines in response to COVID-19.
The unlikely candidate said he believed Trump had the “right instincts” initially but suggested he was “manipulated” by bureaucrats into imposing lockdowns and vaccination mandates.
“He caved in, and many of our most fundamental rights disappeared almost overnight,” Kennedy argued in a speech at the Libertarian National Convention.
“President Trump authorized health officials to mandate scientifically unfounded social distancing measures that undermine our First Amendment right to free assembly. We can no longer peacefully assemble,” he added.
Trump has previously said a vote for Kennedy would be a “wasted protest vote” and called him a “Democratic gimmick”.
“RFK Jr. is a Democratic Party ‘rigger,’ a radical left-wing liberal who was being deployed to help re-elect the worst president in American history, villain Joe Biden,” Trump said. Said In a Truth Social post last month, I wrote, “A vote for Junior is essentially a useless protest vote that could go either way, but will only hurt Democrats if Republicans find out the truth about him. Junior is totally anti-gun, a radical environmentalist who makes Green News Scammers look like conservatives, an advocate of massive taxation and open borders, and anti-military/veterans…”
Trump is also scheduled to speak at the Libertarian Party Convention on Saturday, where Kennedy has challenged Trump to a debate.
“This is the perfect neutral ground for a debate where you and I can defend your record to your wavering constituents,” he said in the request.
“You yourself said that if my approval ratings were reasonably high, you wouldn’t be afraid to debate me,” Kennedy continued. “Well, I wouldn’t be afraid. In fact, I am the only presidential candidate in history to have outperformed candidates of both major parties in a head-to-head contest.”
The Hill reached out to the Kennedy campaign.
