Robert De Niro narrates Biden campaign ad with debunked or questionable claims about Trump

Anti-Trump actor Robert De Niro gave a strong endorsement to the Biden-Harris campaign this week, narrating a new ad that portrays Trump as an unstable “dictator” who will do anything to stay in power.

De Niro, who gained notoriety during the Trump administration for repeatedly disparaging the former president, New Advertisement He laid out several stories about Trump that have been pushed by Democrats and the media that have been discredited or proven false.

“Trump wants revenge and he’ll stop at nothing to get it,” De Niro began in the short 30-second spot, which also included quotes from Trump that conservative figures claim were being quoted out of context.

The ad begins with De Niro saying, “From tweeting in the middle of the night to drinking bleach to tear gassing citizens to photo ops, we knew Trump was out of control when he was president.”

As the actors delivered their lines, footage of the former president during his term in office was projected onto the screen, accompanied by tense background music.

The “bleach” comment was a narrative circulated by Democratic Party officials and media figures that the former president urged Americans to “inject themselves with bleach” during a White House press conference at the height of the pandemic.

Biden attacked Trump in a recent speech, saying, “Look, I’ll never forget when he lied about a pandemic and told the American people to inject bleach into their skin.”

But at the time, Trump only referred to an unspecified “disinfectant” he was researching that could be injected to fight the coronavirus, and made no mention of bleach at all.

“We have disinfectants that kill the virus in a minute. Is there a way we can do something similar by injecting it into the body or by washing it in,” the president said at the time. “As you can see, the virus gets into the lungs and does a lot of damage to the lungs, so that would be interesting to look at.”

This “photo opportunity” theory was debunked a year after President Trump’s infamous walk to the vandalized St. John’s Church, when an investigation by the Interior Department’s inspector general found that the removal of Black Lives Matter protesters from Lafayette Park on June 1, 2020, was necessary to install an anti-trespasser fence to prevent vandalism on the White House grounds.

The report found that President Trump happened to walk into the space that was being removed just hours after the removal plan was decided.

“Now he’s running again, this time threatening to become a dictator and abolish the Constitution,” De Niro continues narrating the ad, before pausing to show footage of 2024 presidential candidate Trump telling rallygoers, “If I don’t win, there’s going to be a bloodbath.”

Some conservatives have previously expressed frustration with the phrase “bloody disaster”, criticising it as being used out of context.

After Trump made the claim in March, outlets including Rolling Stone magazine, NBC News and CBS News ran headlines claiming that Trump had claimed it would be a “catastrophe” if he wasn’t re-elected, but failed to mention that he was referring to the auto industry.

A Trump campaign spokesman disputed that view, telling NBC News that “Biden’s policies would be an economic disaster for the auto industry and auto workers.”

At the time, X owner Elon Musk slammed NBC News for failing to provide context, saying, “This headline is misleading. He was referring to the auto industry. Shame on you NBC.”

Conservative commentator, US military veteran and author Sean Parnell also slammed NBC, writing: “NBC is now spreading a hoax about bloodshed. Unbelievable. These ‘news’ outlets need a complete overhaul. They’re no different to state-run media propaganda.”

The Biden-Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
