President Biden’s re-election campaign is preparing for its third major star-studded fundraiser with the Clintons in Virginia next month, sources confirmed to The Washington Post.
Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will host a major fundraiser on June 18, which will feature former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and First Lady Jill Biden.
The election will take place at McAuliffe’s home in McLean, Virginia. McAuliffe served as Virginia’s governor from 2014 to 2018 but lost to Gov. Glenn Youngkin in the 2021 election.
Axios We were the first to report on the fundraiser.
The upcoming fundraiser comes on the heels of Biden’s first “Three Presidents” show in New York in March, which featured Presidents Clinton and Barack Obama.
The Biden-Harris campaign said the March fundraiser helped raise about $26 million for Biden’s reelection effort.
Mr Biden will join Mr Obama at a second glitzy fundraiser hosted by actor George Clooney in Los Angeles in mid-June.
This will be McLean’s third fundraiser.
Biden outraised former President Donald Trump in March, raising $90 million for his campaign and the Democratic National Committee that month, according to his campaign.
Trump’s team, along with the Republican National Committee, raised $66 million that month.
But the 77-year-old Trump outraised Biden at a Florida fundraiser in April, raising a massive $50.5 million, according to the Trump campaign.
According to figures from both campaigns, the Trump campaign claims to have raised about $76 million during April, far surpassing the Biden campaign’s $51 million.
It was the first time this year that Trump beat Biden in fundraising.
Still, the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee recently reported having $192 million in cash on hand, far more than the $88 million held by Trump and the Republican National Committee.
According to Axios, organizers of McLean’s fundraiser are planning a reception followed by a more expensive dinner.
Later this month, Biden is scheduled to face off against Trump in a CNN-sponsored debate in Atlanta, Georgia on June 27.
Trump has been confined to a courtroom in Manhattan for his hush money trial, limiting his time for campaigning and fundraising.
The trial in Manhattan is expected to conclude soon, with closing arguments set to begin this week.
