Mac users are tech elitists: poll

Mac users have been revealed to be the tech elite who believe their devices are far superior to others and will never be infected with viruses or malware.

In fact, 91% of people say their Macs are better than the competition, and three-quarters don’t think they need to thoroughly clean their Macs as often as other computers.

The average American adult has 708 unread emails and 298 unused apps or folders, yet 41% of people own a slow machine.

In an attempt to scare users’ egos, the developers of Mac cleanup app CleanMyMac X have challenged them to watch through a nine-hour video that shows them manually removing unnecessary data from their computers in real time.

The challenge came after a survey by app developer MacPaw revealed that 57% of computer owners believe it would take them less than an hour to restore their device to like-new condition.

In fact, if your machine is more than a year old, it may take several days.

Developed in Ukraine, this app cleans, protects and speeds up your Mac with a one-button solution that safely scans every nook and cranny of your Mac’s system and removes gigabytes of junk files, large hidden files, old archives, unused apps and malware.

Now, Boston-based MacPaw is urging Mac users to watch a multi-feature movie called “Deep Clean,” which shows just how foolish it is to manually remove viruses, suspicious old apps, junk files and hundreds of emails from your computer.

At eight hours, 57 minutes and 15 seconds, the video is just a few minutes shorter than it takes to watch the entire first series of “Friends” and about 30 minutes shorter than Republican Kevin McCarthy’s record-breaking strategy speech to the House of Representatives in 2021.

MacPaw is so confident that the technique is similar to watching paint dry that they’re offering a 30% discount on CleanMyMac X to anyone who manages to do it all in one go. In the real world, you definitely don’t want to do all that tedious, tedious work.

“Most people in the U.S. have computers that are more than a year old, which means they’ve accumulated a ton of system junk, duplicate files, and tons of useless documents and old tickets that you no longer need. All of this slows down your device, but we’ve found that many Mac users don’t think they need to clean their computers,” said Oleksiy Mironenko, product manager at MacPaw, which has 30 million users worldwide.

“I didn’t make this video to put people to sleep, but to show how hard it is to clean your devices on your own without any help.”

The survey also revealed that an overwhelming 86% of the 1,000 American adults surveyed believe that technological advances have made their lives much easier by giving them more time.

Time-saving activities like online shopping and being able to carry on multiple conversations on WhatsApp instead of making individual calls have saved us 11 hours a day.

It would be a shame to spend days manually cleaning it up instead of pressing a button.
